TUKWILA, Wash. – The Colorado Rapids Women got a pair of goals by Kristen Hamilton as they took a 2-1 victory against the Seattle Sounders Women on Sunday night at Starfire Stadium. The victory allowed the Rapids to keep their chances of a place in the playoffs alive as the Sounders Women missed out on the opportunity to extend their lead in the Western Conference to four points.

The Sounders had the better of the early going, but the Rapids took the lead as they counter-attacked following a Seattle corner kick. Hamilton picked up possession on the right and drove toward goal. After beating three defenders, she sent a finish underneath the advancing Erin McNulty at the near post.

The goal provided the Rapids with momentum, which carried over into the second half as Hamilton struck again. After running onto a long pass into the right channel, Hamilton was able to lift her finish over McNulty to give Colorado a 2-0 lead two minutes into the half.

Seattle tried to hit back, and came close in the 65th minute only for Jenna Richardson’s shot to be saved by Hannah Clark. Sara Campbell pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with eight minutes to go, but the Sounders were unable to find an equalizer as the Rapids held on for the victory.

The Rapids, 4-4-2 and on a three-game winning streak (STANDINGS), play at the Bay Area Breeze on July 2 before coming home for the regular season finale on July 11 against Los Angeles.
