Article: Media praise play of rookie Dillon Powers
As the Rapids’ youth movement continues to pay dividends, several players are attracting attention from around the American soccer world. Yesterday, there was an article pushing Chris Klute for a spot on the U.S. National Team. Today, it’s rookie midfielder Dillon Powers that has people talking.
Yanks Abroad published an article on Tuesday morning about Powers, and the midfielder’s strong first season in MLS (read it here). Noting that Powers leads MLS in minutes played among rookies, the interview touches on how the Notre Dame grad still sees plenty of room for growth in his play.
The Yanks Abroad article is just one of many that is putting Powers’ Rookie of the Year candidacy on display. Soccer by Ives just named Powers the Rookie of the Week for a second straight time, and MLSsoccer.com has Powers leading the way in the most recent Rookie Rankings. Other websites are also taking notice, and Powers has topped several lists for a midseason Rookie of the Year honor.
As the MLS season crosses the halfway point, do you think Dillon Powers is the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year? Will Deshorn Brown, who leads rookies in both goals and assists, make a push? And where do those players fit on the field when Martín Rivero returns to the fold?
