Join the Rapids' Team Burgundy in the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes run

President Tim Hinchey shares personal story to raise awareness for special cause

Rapids fans, sponsors, season ticket holders and friends,

Colorado has some of the world’s best supporters, who show their passion and commitment at every Rapids match and event where you participate, every cause you raise awareness for, and every organization you through fundraising. For the second year, the Colorado Rapids have partnered with the American Diabetes Association and will be participating in the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes, a 5K and 10K walk/run on Saturday, November 2 in downtown Denver. I’d like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to join our team, and share a bit of my story with you.

My mother, Nancy, has had Type II diabetes for the last decade. Six surgeries and countless doctors' visits have resulted in the loss of her right leg from the knee down, so I know first-hand the struggles and challenges that come with this disease. Two years ago, I became a member of the board for the ADA to help fight this terrible and growing disease. The 19 other board members and I help raise funds and awareness for research of both Type I and II diabetes, which comes largely from events like Step Out. Last year, the Rapids team raised over $5,000 for the event, and at the game on Saturday the Rapids presented a grant to the ADA that was raised through our players and Teammates for Kids Foundation.

This year, I am a co-chair of the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes, and our Rapids team goal is to have more than 100 Rapids staff/fans/family/friends participate in the walk/run on November 2, and beat last year’s amount raised. I’ve already signed up and donated, and would be honored to have you on our team as a donor, a participant in the Step Out, or both! Click here to find out more information on our team and to join. As member of our Rapids “Team Burgundy”, you will receive prizes and incentives for helping us achieve our team goal.

Thanks very much for your support!

Team Burgundy!
