If it's up to Colorado Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja, new forward Vicente Sanchez will play on Sunday when the Rapids visit Chivas USA (9 p.m. MT, Altitude TV and UniMas).

"High," Pareja said when asked about the chances that Sanchez will make his Rapids debut over the weekend."

But it may not be entirely up to Pareja.

"First we're trying to get everything clear with the lawyers about his P-1 (visa), and I think that's coming," Pareja said. "I'm trying not to worry about it and just to count on him. That's what we're expecting. (UPDATE: Sanchez received his ITC and visa on Thursday afternoon).

"As far as playing, he had an extra session (Tuesday) and is looking good, so I'm very positive and optimistic to count on him. It may be from the bench, but we'll see. The absence of Edson (Buddle) and Atiba (Harris) may give us a different challenge and (Sanchez) is in the equation."

Neither Buddle nor Harris trained on Wednesday after picking up injuries in Saturday's draw with Real Salt Lake.

As for where Sanchez would be use, Pareja said the veteran forward was brought in to contribute offensively.

"He can play on either side of the three (forwards) that we normally play, (and) he can play underneath as a second forward with more offensive instincts," Pareja said. "Out of the four positions up front, maybe the lone forward is the one that I don't see him much as, though I saw him play for the national team in that role."

Regardless of where he's positioned on the field, it's clear that Pareja expects results from the veteran of LigaMX and the Bundesliga.

"He needs to do both - he needs to assist and he needs to contribute with goals as well. That's why he's here," Pareja added. "We were trying to get another player that we could count on scoring, so I'm expecting for him to create goals and score as well."
