Rapids, KSE Charities, and Teammates for Kids to donate $36000 to six organizations

Thousands raised by players and matched by Teammates for Kids will be presented Saturday

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, August 15, 2013) – The Colorado Rapids, in partnership with Kroenke Sports Charities and Teammates for Kids Foundation will be awarding a total of $36,000 in grants to six non-profit organizations that provide education, health or inner city services to underserved children in Colorado. They will present the grants to a representative of each organization at halftime of the Rapids match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, August 17 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

The six organizations receiving a grant are the American Diabetes Association, Special Olympics Colorado, Love, Light & Melody, Mount Saint Vincent Home, Gabby’s Bags of Fun and the Myocarditis Foundation. All six organizations were chosen by Kroenke Sports Charities to receive the grants based on their relationship with the Rapids and dedication to the goals and values of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment.

The grant money that will be donated on Saturday was raised entirely by Colorado Rapids players over the last two seasons, who donated either a flat amount or made a performance-based pledge, and was then matched by Teammates for Kids Foundation to total $36,000. Teammates for Kids Foundation is a Denver based organization founded by Garth Brooks and Troy Aikman that focuses on helping children in the areas of health, education and inner-city outreach.
