Academy on Campus: Perez helps Creighton to #1 position in national rankings

A weekly update on Colorado Rapids Academy alumni playing in Division I schools across the country as of September 11, 2013:

The college soccer season is now in full swing, and a total of 22 Rapids Academy products were on rosters around the NCAA Division I ranks. This weekend, freshman Ricardo Perez helped the Creighton Blue Jays move up to #1 in the national rankings, beating Columbia 3-1 and scoring his second goal of the season. Pat Slogic of Cornell also started strong, with the senior defender scoring a goal as the Big Red went 1-0-1 on their opening weekend.

Avery Ball – Wright State (1-0-0) – Freshman midfielder from Fort Collins did not play in the Raiders’ 3-2 season opening win against Marshall.

Zach Bolden – University of Denver (1-2-1) – Senior midfielder from Denver started both of DU games on an East Coast visit this weekend, where the Pioneers lost 4-1 at George Mason and tied American 2-2. He has started all four of DU’s matches this season.

Alex Braman – St. Mary’s (CA) College (2-1-0) – Freshman defender from Niwot started in the Gaels’ 2-1 overtime loss to CSU Northridge, the first road game of the year. He has started all three matches for Saint Mary’s this season.

Ben Braman – St. Mary’s (CA) College (2-1-0) – Freshman defender from Niwot started in the Gaels’ 2-1 overtime loss to CSU Northridge. He has started all three matches for Saint Mary’s this season.

Josue Chavez – Lipscomb University (2-1-0) – Sophomore midfielder from Longmont appeared as a substitute in Lipscomb’s 2-0 loss to Dayton, as the Bisons finished as the runners-up in the Dayton Flyer Classic tournament.

Andrew Epstein – Stanford University (1-1-1) – Freshman goalkeeper from Fort Collins has not made an appearance for the Cardinal, and is behind the senior returning starting goalkeeper on the depth chart.

Michael Gottlinger – Iona College (2-1-1) – Freshman defender from Fort Collins has yet to make an appearance for the Gaels.

Chris Gurule – University of New Mexico (2-0-1, #9) – Redshirt freshman defender from Longmont did not play in either match as the Lobos went 1-0-1 on the weekend, drawing VCU 1-1 before beating Georgetown 1-0 in overtime.

Karsten Hanlin – University of Denver (1-2-1) – Sophomore midfielder from Centennial started in a 4-1 loss at George Mason and did not play in the next day’s 2-2 draw at American. He has started three of DU’s four games this year.

Brad Holub – UNLV (2-2-0) – Freshman goalkeeper from Golden has not made an appearance for the Cardinal, and is behind the senior returning starting goalkeeper on the depth chart.

Eric Kronenberg – University of Denver (1-2-1) – Freshman forward from Boulder did not play in DU’s two road matches this weekend.

Joseph Kuzminsky – Alabama-Birmingham (3-0-0, #8) – Redshirt freshman goalkeeper from Denver did not play in UAB’s 2-1 overtime win against Indiana, and is behind a senior goalkeeper on the depth chart. He has appeared as a substitute in one match this season.

Ricardo Perez – Creighton University (3-0-0, #1) – Freshman forward from Fort Collins continued his strong start to the season, scoring the third goal in a 3-1 win over Columbia. The match was his first start of the season after appearing as a substitute in each of the Blue Jays’ first two matches. He has two goals so far in three matches.

Jason Pillard – Wake Forest University (2-1-0, #15) – Freshman defender from Niwot did not appear in the Demon Deacons’ 2-0 win at Boston College, and has yet to make an appearance this season.

James Rogers – University of New Mexico (2-0-1, #9) – Junior forward from Fort Collins continued his strong start to the season, scoring his team’s goal in a 1-1 draw with VCU before getting an assist on the 9th-ranked Lobos’ game-winner in the second OT of a 1-0 victory over Georgetown. Rogers started both matches.

Austin Seifert – Wright State (1-0-0) – Freshman forward from Colorado Springs appeared as a substitute in the Raiders’ 3-2 overtime victory over Marshall, his first collegiate appearance.

Patrick Slogic – Cornell University (1-0-1) – Senior defender from Colorado Springs started off the 2013 where he left off a year ago, starting in a win and a draw on the opening weekend of games for the Ivy League school. He scored his first goal of the season on an 81st minute equalizer in the 2-1 overtime win against Hartwick.

Drake Stewart – Wright State (1-0-0) – Senior forward from Colorado Springs did not play in the Raiders’ 3-2 season opening win against Marshall.

Matthew Taphorn – Central Arkansas (3-1-0) – Junior defender from Denver started both matches for the Bears as they earned a pair of wins over Oral Roberts and Missouri-Kansas. He has started all four games this season.

Cameron Taylor – Cornell University (1-0-1) – Freshman midfielder from Littleton will open the season with the Big Red this weekend with a pair of games.

Alex Toderica – University of Denver (1-2-1) – Freshman forward from Longmont did not appear in DU’s two road matches this weekend.

Bryan Windsor – Princeton University (0-1-0) – Freshman midfielder from Boulder appeared as a substitute in Princeton’s 3-0 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson, his first collegiate action.
