Chasing 100: Buddle scores 98th career goal in win over LA

Forward nearing MLS milestone that only seven players have ever achieved

Colorado Rapids forward Edson Buddle scored the lone goal in the club's 1-0 road win over the LA Galaxy Saturday night. The veteran forward has scored in three straight matches, bringing his career total to 98 all-time regular season goals - now two away from becoming just the eighth player in MLS history to score 100 during the regular season.

This is the first time since 2010 (Oct. 3 at CHV, Oct. 7 at PHI, Oct. vs COL) that Buddle has scored in three straight matches (Aug. 17 vs VAN, Aug. 31 at KC, Sept. 7 at LA). His next chance to add to his career tally is on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Rapids host FC Dallas, against which he's scored 11 goals in 21 career games.

The chart below from the Elias Sports Bureau shows where Buddle ranks among all-time leading goal-scorers in MLS history (through September 7, 2013). * notes active MLS player.
