Matchday Welcome: Rapids host FC Dallas

President Tim Hinchey welcomes fans back to Dick's Sporting Goods Park today at 7:00 p.m.

Rapids Fans:

Thank you for coming out to tonight’s Rapids match against FC Dallas, and for showing your support for our club in this important game. We have all been affected by the extreme rainfall and flooding over the last few days, and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park was lucky to be spared the worst of it. We know that many of you have had to maneuver around road closures on your way to the stadium tonight, and we appreciate you making the extra effort to be here at the stadium. We are also all thinking of those who have lost their lives or are missing due to this tragedy.

As we turn our attention to the match tonight, it is easy to see the playoff implications for our club. We got a massive 1-0 victory in Los Angeles last weekend thanks to a clutch performance from our team (and a great goal from Edson Buddle), but all of our Western Conference rivals seem not to be dropping many points these days. With Dallas right next to us in the standings, this game means a lot to both teams, and we’re happy to be facing them with a great Colorado crowd in attendance.

We also have a great deal to celebrate tonight, starting with Hispanic Heritage Night. Our team, staff and fan base are all quite diverse and this is another way for us to highlight the Rapids’ inclusiveness and acceptance. Those who stay after the game will be treated to another Colorado match, with the Special Olympics Rapids facing their counterparts from Dallas immediately after the final whistle. All of us feel proud to see that team wearing the burgundy.

Another event that is close to our hearts is tonight’s “Open Closets, Open Hearts,” a sidewalk sale that runs from 5-7 p.m. at Eighteen76 at the south end of the stadium, and an auction inside the stadium throughout the game. Proceeds will benefit the Myocarditis Foundation, which means a great deal to this club, as this rare disease took young Elysa Rojas, the daughter of our Head Athletic Trainer Jaime Rojas, far too soon. The sale will feature new and gently used soccer items donated by Rapids players and coaches, as well as donations from around MLS and American soccer. We were touched by the outpouring of support we have received this week, and hope that you are able to participate as well.

Once again, we sincerely thank you for making the trip out to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this Saturday night for another great Rapids match – remember, there are only two left after this one! If there’s anything we can do to make your evening better, please let our Customer Service group know, and you can always reach me on twitter: @tkhinchey3.

Come on you Rapids!
