Rapids Academy defender Quentin Pearson selected for U.S. U-18 camp
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, September 18, 2013) –Colorado Rapids Academy defender Quentin Pearson has been selected to the United States Under-18 National Team for an upcoming training camp in California. The Longmont native is one of 36 players selected by head coach Javier Perez for the week-long camp, which will also include a pair of scrimmages against local club sides.
Pearson has previously joined the U.S. U-15 and U-17 teams for training camps, and this will be his first action with the U-18’s. The defender was a key part of the Rapids’ Under-16 Team’s successful 2012-13 season in the Development Academy, when the team finished third out of the top 80 youth clubs around the country. Along with Kortne Thompson-Ford, Pearson was named to U.S. Soccer's Academy Starting XI team.
This is the first training camp for the U-18 MNT since finishing in third place at the 2013 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. Following the camp, Perez will select an 18-player roster to travel from Oct. 6-14 to represent the U.S. at a four-team tournament in Limoges, France.
The Rapids will face the Portland Timbers this Friday, September 20 in a match which will be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports at 8 p.m. MT. The team will then have a week off before returning to action in Colorado, squaring off against the Seattle Sounders on October 5 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
