Colorado Rapids Playoff Scenarios: Win, Lose, or Draw in final game

With one game left, Colorado could finish anywhere from 1st to 5th in the West

With just one game left in the MLS regular season for each team, the Rapids could still finish anywhere from 5th place in the Western Conference (where the team currently sits) to 1st place. There are four matches that will impact Colorado’s final standings:

  • Chivas USA at Real Salt Lake; Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. MT
  • Portland Timbers FC at Chivas USA; Saturday, October 26 at 8:30 p.m. MT
  • Colorado Rapids at Vancouver Whitecaps FC; Sunday, October 27 at 6 p.m. MT
  • LA Galaxy at Seattle Sounders FC; Sunday, October 27 at 7 p.m. MT

Here are the full playoff scenarios for the Rapids, which assume that no teams will score more than 10 goals in a single game this week.

If the Rapids WIN in Vancouver, we would:

  • Finish 4th and host Seattle in the Knockout Match on October 30/31, IF

    • Salt Lake and Portland beat or tie Chivas, and
    • LA beats Seattle, OR
  • Finish 4th and host LA Galaxy in the Knockout Match on October 30/31, IF

    • Salt Lake and Portland beat or tie Chivas, and
    • Seattle beats LA, OR
  • Finish 3rd and host a Western Conference Semifinal match on Nov. 2/3 IF

    • Salt Lake and Portland beat or tie Chivas, and
    • Seattle vs. LA ends in a draw, OR
  • Finish 3rd and host a Western Conference Semifinal match on Nov. 2/3 IF

    • Chivas beats Salt Lake or Portland, and
    • Somebody wins the Seattle vs. LA game, OR
  • Finish 2nd and go on the road for a Western Conference Semifinal match on Nov. 2/3 IF
