Commentary: Sorry Sounders, but the Rapids were just making a point

Fleming suggests sexy soccer is not confined to the 'top' teams in MLS

Speaking personally, I think an apology is in order to the Seattle Sounders. There were many around MLS who didn't believe that this Rapids side was capable of very special things.

Yes, I know that there have been murmurings here and there, and I know that both Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers slipped into MLSsoccer.com's 24 Under 24 … just.

I just suppose, ya know, with all the fine progress being made by this young team, under Coach of the Year contender Oscar Pareja, I expected more to be made before now.

Instead, many preferred to focus on the teams in New York, LA and - of course - the Supporters' Shield-chasing Sounders.

It's understandable, for those teams have the big names, and big names are sexy. So, it appears that the Rapids waited until a national television audience was watching to make their point.

Just sorry that you guys in Seattle happened to be the opponents. No hard feelings …
