Pareja: "A night like tonight is very rewarding for the boys, the players and for the fans"

Coach reacts to come-from-behind win on Fan Appreciation Night

Colorado Rapids Head Coach Oscar Pareja following the 3-2 win over Vancouver in the 2013 season home finale:

On the game overall:

"On a night like tonight, it's very rewarding for the boys, the players and for the fans. We're very proud of this result. Hopefully we can keep this going into the playoffs. The boys deserve it."

On the game winning goal:

"Quality. I think [Torres is] a high-class player. He showed it today in front of his fans."

On if Torres used his heartbreak [from the Panama loss] as motivation for tonight:

"The first time I spoke with Gaby after that game in the middle of the week, the first thing he said was “Oscar, I'm ready to do it. That's why I'm here. I'm going to play hard because we need that result.” Today, look at what he has done."

On Torres' ability to pass:

"He showed heart today. I think it was contagious for everyone. That's the way to lead a team. When you're that heavy in the group, that's the way you do it. The players respect that."

On Torres attacking from underneath rather than upfront when Buddle came in:

"It worked well. [Torres] wanted to drop ten yards and attack from that side and playing off Edson [Buddle]. He looked more free I would say. He had a little bit more room to have some action and get in dangerous spaces, so I like that combination."

On what else he liked on the night:

"It was a very difficult game to face because we have young players that have never been on this stage, fighting for our season. It was one of those games that you knew it would not be pretty. They showed heart, they showed character, and after the PK from Vancouver, they bounced back. That was great for them. All the credit to these players."

On having both Gabriel Torres and Deshorn Brown back after missing a game for national team duty:

"We wanted to play with the memory that [Torres and Brown] had from their last game against Seattle. More than the expectation of having a really good performance from the two guys who were travelling and coming from a roller coaster of feelings there especially for Gaby. We wanted to use the memory of that [Seattle] game but we knew that it was going to be tough physically. The approach for them was great though, and I have to give credit to their professionalism."

On Torres playing tonight, shortly after returning from international duty:

"He begged for that. He said, “Oscar, please I need to play.” It touched me when he said that."
