Each week we will take a look at where the Colorado Rapids stand in the weekly Power Rankings on national soccer media websites.

Taking matters into their own hands, the Colorado Rapids dismantled the (previously) top-ranked Seattle Sounders in a 5-1 victory. Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers strengthened their cases for MLS Rookie of the Year and Vicente Sánchez gave the Sounders fits.

However that was still not enough to impress ESPN, who's rankings continue to baffle. The Sounders get crushed and slip one spot. RSL ties with Dallas and falls three spots. Sporting KC wins 1-0 over Columbus and jumps four spots while the Rapids don’t get any bump after bruising Seattle.

Here’s how the week affected the team's standings in national MLS Power Rankings:

We definitely could have moved them up more – at least one member of the Power Rankings Politburo had them No. 1 this week. Consider Wednesday's game their final test run, as the chance to bury a competitor on the road is a good measure of any team's mentality.

Teams ranked above: NY Red Bulls, Sporting KC, Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers, Sporting KC.

Bleacher Report #6 (#8)

What a night it was to be at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The Rapids unleashed five goals on a visiting Seattle side that did not expect such an offensive outburst from Oscar Pareja's side.

The victory helped Colorado move closer to clinching a playoff berth as they now sit four points ahead of San Jose with three matches left.

Teams ranked above: LA Galaxy, Sporting KC, NY Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers.

Soccer America #2 (#3)

Deshorn Brown schooled DeAndre Yedlin in a memorable matchup of Rookie of the Year contenders to score one of his two goals in a 5-1 pounding of Seattle. Three wins in the last four games has the Rapids primed for a strong finish but they need at least a point at San Jose Wednesday to keep the postseason momentum going.

Teams ranked above the Rapids: NY Red Bulls.

Pro Soccer Talk #5 (#7)

Rookies Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers both elevated their cases for league Rookie of the Year. Brown (who had two goals) even pulled within realistic striking distance of the all-time rookie scoring record in MLS. It was all part of a 5-1 win over Seattle, the best result yet under second-year coach Oscar Pareja, and one that will go far to getting the Rapids into the playoffs.

Teams ranked above: NY Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy.

ESPN FC #7 (#7)

Deshorn Brown likely wrapped up rookie of the year with his two-goal performance in the 5-1 hammering of Seattle, but Vicente Sanchez highlighted his quality in the match as well with a dynamic display.

Teams ranked above: Portland Timbers, Sporting KC, NY Red Bulls, LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders.
