Rapids Academy defender Sam Vines selected for U.S. U-15 squad

Colorado Springs native to join U-15 Boys’ National Team from Dec. 9-15 for three matches

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, November 25, 2013) –Colorado Rapids Academy defender Sam Vines of Colorado Springs has been selected to the United States Under-15 Boys’ National Team for three matches at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase from Dec. 11-15 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Vines, 14, is one of 18 players picked by head coach Hugo Perez for the matches, which will be on Dec. 12, 13 and 15 against the U-15/16 teams for New York Red Bulls, De Anza Force and Weston FC.
 
Vines, a left back, is the youngest player currently on the roster for the Rapids Under-16 Team, which will also be participating at the Winter Showcase, along with the Rapids U-18’s. He is also eligible to play matches for the Rapids Under-14 Team.
 
Fifteen of the players on the Boys’ National Team roster have ties to the 79 clubs currently playing within U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy, and eight players represent MLS Academy sides, including the Colorado Rapids, D.C. United, FC Dallas, LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union.
