Rapids extend new offers to defender Brenton Griffith and Kory Kindle

Colorado looking to bring back the two other 2013 draft picks

A pair of young defenders that the Rapids picked up out of college at the start of 2013 could return for 2014, as the club has extended new contract offers to both Brenton Griffiths and Kory Kindle.

“Both Brenton and Kory came to us in the draft and we have been happy with their progress this year, so we hope that they’ll continue with the team and grow even more in 2014,” Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo told ColoradoRapids.com.

Defender Kory Kindle was selected by the Colorado Rapids with the 25th overall selection in the second round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. The California native did not make a regular season appearance for the Rapids in 2013, though he started seven Reserve League games. He was sidelined with a sprained ankle in late August, and during recovery from that injury, doctors discovered a sports hernia which was surgically repaired in September.

Fellow-rookie defender Brenton Griffiths was drafted 25th overall in the second round of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. Griffiths featured in all 14 of the Rapids Reserve matches and made his MLS debut at San Jose on May 18, 2013 - a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. In November, it was announced that Griffiths had undergone successful shoulder surgery and would miss about four months while recovering.

Bravo added: “We’ve extended offers to them, so if they agree they would be back under the same terms that they were under last year. At this point we’re just waiting to hear back from them.”
