Marco's STH of the Match: Scott Baughman
As part of their benefits package, all Full Season Ticket Holders have the opportunity to be the featured Season Ticket Holder of the Match in 2014.
Scott Baughman will be recognized as Colorado Rapids Season Ticket Holder of the Match when the Rapids host Sporting Kansas City on March 29 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
How long have you been a Season Ticket Holder?
"I’ve been a full season ticket holder since 1998. I moved back here in 1997 and bought cheap South Stands seats for the Western Conference Final against Dallas. We won that game and I decided to buy tickets the following season. I used to sit in the River Rats section at Mile High Stadium but have much better seats now. My first MLS game was actually a DC United game at RFK during a 4th of July weekend. They beat Tampa Bay that day."
Who is your favorite player on the Colorado Rapids and why?
"Right now it’s Marvell Wynne because I played on the back line growing up. I tend to favor defensive players. Obviously he’s much faster than I am or I would be there right there with him! He’s also from Poway and a lot of the guys I played with in college were from that same high school. It should be a team priority to get him a goal this year. Last year he almost got one on a great run against LA. Back in the day I liked Chris Henderson because his work rate was tremendous. It’s nice to see the old guys get coaching jobs in the league…even Peter Vermes, whose team we will face on Saturday."
What is your favorite Colorado Rapids memory?
"Winning the MLS Cup in 2010 is my favorite memory but that’s the easy choice. I remember one game we tied LA with 9 guys. It was impressive. Marcelo’s goal to win a game on the 4th of July sticks out as well."
Who is your favorite team outside of MLS and why?
"The Broncos. I was born in Littleton. It was part of the childhood vaccination program back then."
How did you fall in love with soccer?
"I really don’t remember. There was a field a block away from where I lived. My parents signed me up and that was it."
