Matchday welcome: Rapids host Sporting KC

Club president, Tim Hinchey, hails fans' role in creating a fortress at DSGP

Dear Rapids Fans,

It's a beautiful day here at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, and I'm thrilled to welcome you to today's match against Sporting Kansas City! After many of our fans braved the snow and cold in last weekend's Home Opener, we're eager to finally have the weather cooperate for one of our early-season games. I'm sure our players won't complain either!

Last Saturday's 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers was an exciting day for the club, as it marked Pablo Mastroeni's home debut as our Head Coach, and highlighted just how deep this team is. Whether it's our youth - players like rookie goalkeeper John Berner, who kept his first career clean sheet, as well as strong performances again from Dillon Powers and Deshorn Brown - or the experience of guys like Man of the Match Vicente Sanchez, who scored one penalty and created another, this team is talented at every position. It was a great way to start at home and we look forward to keeping our fortress strong today.

Kansas City has long been one of the Rapids' biggest rivals, and today's match carries with it a lot of history. Last year's MLS Cup champions, Sporting is one of the top teams in the league, and we're looking for our first win against them in five years. This match is another in a difficult run to start the season - we face three teams that had the best regular season record in 2013 in our first three matches. So far we have a draw on the road at New York, and the win over Portland, and we appreciate your support as we know it is crucial to our success here at home.

Today's match includes a few special events that I want to make sure everyone is aware of. For those of you who already have your tickets, come out early and visit Rapids SoccerFest, which opens at 1 p.m. just to the south of the stadium outside Eighteen76 and has plenty of activities and giveaways. If you're still looking to bring out the family to the game, try the Dasani Family Plan presented by Core Power, which will give you four tickets, four meals, and four Core Power or Dasani waters, starting at just $59.

I want to thank you for coming out to the match today, and if there is anything we can do to help improve your experience here at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, please speak with our Customer Service staff, or find me directly on Twitter, @tkhinchey3. Enjoy the game, and come on you Rapids!
