Rapids welcome Neeskens and Piermayr on trial

Son of Dutch legend and Austrian utility player arrived in Colorado this week

The Rapids have welcomed a pair of players into the club’s training sessions this week on trial, bringing in John Neeskens (pictured above) and Thomas Piermayr. The two players have been training in Colorado since Wednesday as they look to impress the coaching staff.

“Both guys are versatile players that we want to take a look at,” said Paul Bravo, the Rapids VP of Soccer Ops and Technical Director. “Piermayr can play as a right back, center back, or holding midfielder, and Neeskens plays on the left side of the field, either in midfield or defense.”

Neeskens, 20, has played professionally in Spain with CF Badalona, having come through FC Barcelona’s youth setup. The son of Dutch legend Johan Neeskens, he holds U.S, Spanish and Dutch passports.

Piermayr, 24, is more experienced, with a resume that includes clubs LASK Linz and Wiener Neustadt in his native Austria, as well as Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and Norway’s Lillestrom.
