COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH PABLO MASTROENI

On game plan:
“I think we came in with the right mindset: try and go at them. We had a few chances at goal in the first half, had a few in the second half and I think most importantly that the effort was there, the mindset was there, the mentality was there, and they fought hard to get a point in a really tough place to play.”

On defensive effort:
“They have good players up front. They’re going to be broken down. We were broken down just as they were at times and we were fortunate that Clint came up huge a couple times there, but that’s part of the game and that’s why we have goalies, but I think the overall effort defensively was very good.”

On Result:
“I think we’re satisfied. I don’t think anyone’s overly joyed about it or anything, which is a good sign. This is a tough place to come in and get a result and I think we struggled to find the game at times offensively. We did create some half-chances here and there, had to defend for long stretches in the second half, but we had a good game plan. We matched their intensity, which is always a good game plan here and you can’t be too disappointed with it. I always wish we could have gotten two more points.”

On teammate Clint Irwin:
“We allowed them to get in a couple dangerous positions, especially there in the second half and he did his thing. He did what he had to do. Sometimes when you come in, like I said, in tough places like this, you need your keeper to do that and we’ll certainly buy his dinner tonight.”

On Chris Wondolowski:
“He is a difficult player to play against. His movement off the ball is really good and he just seems to pop up in the places that the ball drops and he is able to get a foot, a head, or something on it to make it difficult. He is a very good player and he has showed his quality for many years.”

On defensive assignments:
“We just wanted our defenders to be aware of second balls. A lot of times, they like to play into Gordon and then he lays it off for Wondolowski or heads it back across into the box, so it’s really just concentrating on the first ball and finding Wondolowski on the second ball so we made sure we had a body on him.”
