Rapids release defender Brenton Griffiths
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Colorado Rapids announced on Wednesday that the club has released defender Brenton Griffiths. The Jamaican center back was originally selected by the Rapids in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft and made one appearance for the first team.
“Brenton was a hard worker and a good pro during his time with the Rapids, and we want to thank him for all of his efforts on and off the field,” said Paul Bravo, the Rapids VP of Soccer Operations. “We wish him the best moving forward in his career.”
Griffiths, 22, made his only MLS appearance on May 18, 2013 at the San Jose Earthquakes, coming in as a 90th minute substitute. Picked with the 25th selection in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft (second round), Griffiths played two years at the University of South Florida following two seasons at Tyler Junior College in Texas. A native of Spanish Towne, Jamaica, Griffiths made appearances for the Jamaican U-17 and U-20 National Teams.
The Rapids will host Orlando City S.C. in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (TICKETS), as the league calendar pauses for the World Cup. The club is also hosting the World Soccer Celebration Presented by Western Union this weekend in Skyline Park in downtown Denver, where fans can watch all matches in the opening days of the tournament on a huge screen, with food, beverages and entertainment all on site.
