Rapids skipper sidelined for rest of the season
Colorado Rapids skipper Drew Moor will be out for the remainder of the season after an MRI scan on Monday revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral meniscus. He joins fellow-central defender Shane O’Neill on the sidelines. O’Neill received platelet-rich plasma injections on Monday to help facilitate healing of a troublesome sprained right knee.
"It's hard to remember exactly what happened," said Moor this week about the incident. "I just remember running full speed one way, and cutting really hard when [Luis] Silva cut in. My right leg was planted pretty hard and when I opened up to reach back for the ball, my right leg didn't move and all the weight just went into my knee. It was almost as if, for a split second, I could feel my knee turn into jelly."
Moor was stretchered off during the early stages of the Rapids’ 4-2 loss at D.C. United on Sunday night, having fallen awkwardly during the play that led to the home side’s opening goal on 12 minutes. He has vowed to come back 'stronger than before'.
O’Neill suffered his injury on July 12 during a match against the Philadelphia Union and has been out since. An MRI scan last week showed that there was no further structural damage despite O’Neill still feeling pain in the joint.
The Rapids face the LA Galaxy on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in a match presented by Delta Dental of Colorado.
