COMMERCE CITY, Colorado – The Colorado Rapids held tryouts for its Unified team at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park over the weekend with 25 athletes and Unified Partners putting their abilities on display.

“We were excited to be back hosting tryouts for our 11th Rapids Unified Team and are looking forward to a great season with several new faces,” Rapids’ Senior Director of Community Relations and Youth Programming Caitlin Kinser said.

Entering its 11th season, the Rapids Unified Team provides Special Olympic athletes between the ages of 16-25 and their Unified Partners with top-level training and competitive experiences. It also offers MLS fans an opportunity to witness the talents of Special Olympics Colorado soccer players firsthand.

The Rapids will announce its roster for the Unified Team at the end of the week. Later this Spring, Unified athletes will participate in a signing day and media day to sign their official Rapids Unified contracts, receive their gear and take team photos.

The Rapids Unified Team kicks off its season in front of a home crowd, taking on Real Salt Lake Unified on Saturday, May 20, following the conclusion of the first team match. The Rapids Unified first road appearance of the season is set for June 10 against Orlando City SC’s Unified squad.

The Rapids Unified Team hopes to add two more games to its schedule in the coming weeks.

The Rapids Unified Team would not be possible without the support and generosity of our corporate partners adidas, Swire Coca-Cola, and DICK’S Sporting Goods.
