Loan Watch: Sam Vines goes the distance in Charlotte draw against Indy Eleven -

Charlotte Independence were held to a scoreless draw at home to Indy Eleven on Saturday, with on-loan Colorado Rapids players Sam Vines and Caleb Calvert both involved.

Vines played the full 90 minutes at left-back for the Rapids’ USL affiliate, while Calvertwas replaced by Éamon Zayed with 15 minutes remaining. Ricardo Perez and goalkeeper Kainoa Likewise were unused substitutes.

The Independence are without a win in four, and have been shutout in the last three, with the last two of those blanks being at home.

They will be hoping that the month of May is a little kinder. Mike Jeffries’ side resume USL duties at Charleston Battery on Saturday. The Battery are unbeaten in four, and have not conceded in the last two.

Niki Jackson and Sam Hamilton were in action for Colorado Springs Switchbacks for their 1-0 loss at Orange County SC. The game’s only goal came from the penalty spot just six minutes in.

Hamilton played 79 minutes, before being replaced by Tobenna Uzo. Jackson lasted 64 minutes, and was subbed out for AJ Ajeakwa.

The Switchbacks are three games without success. They return home this weekend when they host Reno 1868 FC.

Mike da Fonte was part of a Phoenix Rising back-line which suffered an early set-back at home to Fresno FC, and yet still forced a 1-1 draw. Amadou Dia was dismissed just 26 minutes in. The visitors then took the lead early in the second half, only for Phoenix to snatch a point in the last minute through substitute Alessandro Riggi.

Next up for Phoenix is a home game with LA Galaxy II on Friday night.
