ColoradoRapids.com was able to catch up with several of the Rapids players and coaching staff to find out what they’ve been doing whether it’s been vacationing scouting players working out or charity work since the season ended and what their plans are for the holidays!
Check out some of the Rapids players’ responses as to what they’ve been up to so far in the off-season what their plans are before the team has to report back to 2006 training camp in January and their special holiday messages to all Rapids fans:
Rapids Head Coach Fernando Clavij "Hello fans! First of all I would like to wish everyone of you peace health and happiness in the upcoming holidays. We just returned from Argentina where we were scouting and we are looking at many players from all different places that will help us bring the MLS Cup Championship to Colorado in 2007. The international part of the scouting is completed and now we are watching the U-20 National team that is training in Bradenton for the U-20 tournament in Panama in January. The last two weeks of December will be used for quality time with my wife and kids. Best wishes to all fans from the Clavijo family Happy Holidays and Feliz Navidad Y Prospero Ano Nuevo!"
Rapids General Manager Charlie Wright: "We are busy in the front office working with MLS to try and sign the players Fernando and Murf discovered on their scouting trips and hoping to land a big time designated player. As you know we have been making some trades as well. I have spoken with all of our new players and they are a great group and excited to be coming to Colorado to help us open our new stadium. We are looking forward to the combine and the draft in terms of picking up even more new talent. I hope all of the fans out there have a great holiday season!!"
Rapids Goalkeeper #22 Matt Jordan: "Happy holidays Rapids fans! I just wanted to wish our fans all the best during this holiday season. I am looking forward to enjoying this time with my daughter Sydney and my wife Lori as well as the rest of my family. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday. We look forward to seeing you next season at our new stadium. All the best."
Rapids Midfielder #5 Kyle Beckerman: "Hola de Puerto Viejo Costa Rica.....as for my offseason so far I've been traveling Costa Rica.....it's been so much fun relaxing surfing in the ocean hiking riding bikes playing guitar even kicking the soccer ball around too! When I arrived here they had just finished their rainy season so now the weather has been perfect. Right now I'm writing this email from the Carribean side of Costa Rica in a town called Cocles just south of the bigger town of Puerto Viejo. The place where I'm staying I can wake up and look at the water from my bed and when I go to sleep I hear the waves crashing....pretty sweet it could be easy to stay here for a while! But I already have next year's season on my mind and I'm getting anxious for the Rapids season to start! I hope all the fans out there have a fun and safe holiday...pura vida para todos!"
Rapids Defender #16 Chris Wingert: "Hi everyone back in Colorado! Right now I am at home in New York with my family and I am going to spend the holidays here on Long Island. I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a happy holidays. I can't wait to see everyone in 2007!"
Rapids Forward #15 Jacob Peterson: "Hello Rapids fans! I just want to wish everyone a happy holiday season. I hope that you are staying warm and enjoying the Denver weather. (It is much better than the weather in Michigan I must say). The offseason has been pretty eventful for me so far. Hunter Freeman and I got a chance to play over in London with the Generation Adidas team. It was nice to get back on the field and play with a lot of the younger guys in the league. We did pretty well with two wins and a loss. It was definitely a great experience! I'm excited for the 2007 season and I can't wait to open up with a win on April 7th in the new stadium. Again have a happy holidays everyone!!"
Rapids Midfielder #33 Daniel Wasson: "Happy holidays everyone! Thanks again Rapids fans for your continuing support of our club and I wish the best for all of you during this holiday season. I have been in Colorado Springs for most of the off season so far; Colorado is so gorgeous why leave? It's been extremely nice spending time with my family and friends but I can't wait for 2007 to come. I just took a tour of the new stadium and it is coming along perfectly. April 7th can't get here soon enough. Bring on DC United to be the first of many to fall at Dick's Sporting Goods Park! Hope everyone has a happy holiday!
