COMMERCE CITY COLO. (ColoradoRapids.com) - The Colorado Rapids travel to Ohio this Saturday night for the second game of their 3-match regular season road trip to take on the defending MLS champion Columbus Crew.
Saturday's match kicks off at 5:30pm MT and the match will be televised on Altitude 2. To find out what channel Altitude 2 is in your area click here.
The Rapids and Crew meet on Saturday for the 29th time in history with the Rapids holding a 14-8-7 advantage in their all-time record against Columbus.
In Ohio the Rapids are an even 6-6-3 all time. The Rapids will be looking to improve their recent record vs. the Crew as Colorado went 0-2-0 vs. Columbus last year and the last time these two clubs met Columbus came out on top in a 2-0 win over the Rapids on July 27 2008 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
The Rapids are currently the league’s second-highest scoring club and carry two of the top goalscorers in MLS on their roster: Conor Casey (3) and Omar Cummings (2). Casey who won MLS Player of the Week honors this week has now scored 13 goals in the Rapids' last 19 games dating back to last season.
This weekend's game also marks the second game of the Rapids' longest road swing of the season with three consecutive matches away from Colorado. After beating LA at the Home Depot Center on Saturday and Tuesday (in an Open Cup play-in match) the Rapids travel to take on the holders of the last three MLS Cups going to Columbus on Saturday and then Houston on April 19.
The Rapids are coming into Saturday's game coming off 2 road wins at LA in 4 days. The Rapids bounced the Galaxy 3-2 in regular season action on Saturday and then stayed in the City of Angels through Tuesday night's US Open Cup play-in match in which Colorado again triumphed over Bruce Arena's squad this time winning in PK's to advance to the next game.
The Columbus Crew currently sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference five points behind leaders Chicago and New England. The Crew are still in search of their first victory in 2009. The reigning Supporters’ Shield holders are coming off consecutive losses and will look to earn a valuable three points at home where they were 11-2-2 last season. 2008 MLS MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto is the team leader in scoring having tallied two goals (T-2nd in MLS) through the first four matches.
