One of the highlights of the match taking place only one day before the three year anniversary of the September 11th tragedy will be a special performance by the world-famous United States Marines Silent Drill Platoon who will execute their precision drill formations at halftime of the match.
The United States Marines Silent Drill Platoon is precision timing and discipline at its best. The team tours the country performing at special events. Drill Platoon candidates participate in a four-month Silent Drill School in Yuma Arizona where they live and breathe drill work. They maintain their rhythm with no verbal commands or cadence. After drill school candidates must try out before attaining a position with the team.Their impeccable dress blue uniforms and perfect timing speaks to the pride and commitment of the entire Marine Corps. At a New York Giants game in the fall of 2001 fans overcome by the show of patriotism shouted "U.S.A. U.S.A." throughout the drill team's entire performance. Amazingly the Marines pulled the performance off without a hitch never once allowing themselves to be distracted by the enthusiastic crowd.
The celebrations will also include a presence by the Colorado Army National Guard prior to the match at Soccer Celebration (4:30 – 7:30 p.m.) who will showcase a Humvee and Military Helicopter for people to see and experience up close as well as disseminate information on the National Guard's partnership with the Rapids on the "Red Ribbon" anti-drug campaign.
Also taking place in Soccer Celebration Denver's District 2 Fire Department will be bringing their "Hammer" (a HAZMAT Fire Engine) and District 6 will be bringing Engine #12 and Flight For Life will be bringing in their medical helicopter all for fans to explore in the hours leading up until kickoff!
