COMMERCE CITY Colo. (June 29 2009) – The Colorado Rapids announced today that the club will be hosting the top youth soccer players in the country at Dick's Sporting Goods Park this weekend as a trio of events take place starting this Saturday.
The 2009 SUM U-17 Cup the adidas ESP invitation-only camp and the Rapids adidas Alliance Jamboree all will take place at the home of the Rapids in the coming days.
Soccer United Marketing’s third annual Youth Development soccer tournament the SUM U-17 Cup kicks off on Saturday July 4 at the soccer complex at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City Colorado.
The tournament will feature U-17 Youth Development teams from 10 different MLS clubs and will culminate with the championship game being played on Wednesday July 8th.
The featured game of the tournament will be the Rapids' U-17 side vs. Toronto FC on Tuesday July 7th at 5:15pm inside the stadium.
The team pool is comprised of the U-17 academy teams that are part of MLS clubs.
The 10 teams will compete in a round robin group phase with the group winners advancing to the final.
The champion will take home the coveted SUM U-17 Cup and earns the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Trofeo Quixote U-17 tournament in Madrid Spain.

All SUM U-17 games are free and open to the public to attend.

The adidas ESP (Elite Soccer Program) will run concurrently with the SUM U-17 Cup. adidas ESP brings together the top high school players in the country for a week of top-level training. Participation is by invitation only; participants are selected based on recommendations from a national scouting network. Program alumni include MLS stars such as Michael Parkhurst Brad Guzan Maurice Edu and Chris Seitz. adidas ESP starts Friday July 3 and culminates with the championship games held on Wednesday July 8.
Additionally the Colorado Rapids adidas Alliance Jamboree will take place on the complex this same weekend as well. The Rapids' official adidas Alliance clubs (Boulder County Force Colorado Storm and Pride Soccer Club) will send players from their teams to participate in a series of friendly matches in the U-11 to U-14 age groups. The objective of the Rapids adidas Alliance Jamboree is to provide an opportunity for the players of the Rapids' alliance clubs to come together in friendly competition and provide an idea-sharing forum for the technical staffs from each club.
