COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – For the third year in a row, the Colorado Rapids and Kroenke Sports Charities have teamed up with Tyson Foods, Lift Up America and Food Bank of the Rockies to donate 30,000 lbs of chicken to 30 non-profit organizations. Through this partnership, over 140,000 protein-heavy meals will be supplied to Denver Metro area families.
A press conference and chicken distribution will be held on Monday, September 27, at 12:30 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Zubin Mehenti, from KWGN 2 will be the emcee, and Amber Callender from the Denver Mayor’s office will be in attendance. Kevin Seggelke, President and CEO of Food Bank for the Rockies will join Jaan Heinmets from Lift Up America and Jeff Plush from the Colorado Rapids at the event.
Players from the Colorado Rapids will be on hand to help unload the trucks, along with volunteers from the Food Bank of the Rockies.
Lift Up America was founded in 2004 with a mission to give back to communities across America. Their aim is to feed the nation’s hungry, provide hearing and vision screenings, as well as, prescription hearing aids and eyewear to American children in need.
Food Bank of the Rockies, a non-profit organization, distributed nearly 25 million pounds of food in 2008 through over 700 partner agencies. Those agencies administer more than 1,000 hunger-relief programs in Northern Colorado, including Metro Denver, and the entire state of Wyoming. Of the 312,000 people served annually, 45 percent are children. In its first 30 years, FBR has provided nearly 330 million pounds of food to our member agencies, which translates to more than 250 million meals for people in need.
