During this holiday season the Colorado Rapids are working with different local organizations to bring cheer to children and families in the Denver-metro area.
This month, the Rapids and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park staff participated in Commerce City Recreational Center’s Project Present program. Project Present is designed to give underserved children the holiday toys and clothes that they ask for. The Rapids and DSGP staff sponsored 20 students at Central Elementary School to provided coats, hats, gloves, toys and hygiene products. In some cases, these gifts may be the only gifts that the children receive this year.
The Rapids are also teaming up with partner, HealthOne, this holiday season to bring smiles to patients and families at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree. On Monday, December 13, Rapids players Pablo Mastroeni, Brian Mullan, Kosuke Kimura and Chris Sharpe will join mascot Edson the Eagle and patients from the children’s hospital for an afternoon of fun and holiday cheer. Players and patients will participate in arts and crafts, reading time and other interactive games and activities. The MLS Cup Trophy will also be on hand for patients, parents and staff to take pictures with.
Throughout the year, and especially during the holidays the Colorado Rapids strive to make a difference in their community. With programs like Project Present and through key partnerships the Rapids can make an impact and achieve their goals.
