COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, July 18, 2011) – Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings, who has two goals and two assists in 13 games this season after leading the team with 14 goals in 2010, has been named to the MLS All-Star Team for the July 27 match against Manchester United. It is the first All-Star selection for Cummings, who has 32 goals in his five seasons with Colorado, good for fourth all-time for the Rapids.
Cummings was picked by All-Star Head Coach Hans Backe of the Red Bulls, who selected the top talent in MLS for the match against Manchester United, one of the world’s best teams. Though Cummings missed time this season with an ankle injury, he has returned to the lineup and continues to provide speed and attacking skill as both a forward and a wide midfielder, providing two goals and two assists in 2011.

Originally drafted by the Rapids in the third round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Cincinnati, Cummings played sparingly in his first season with the team, scoring twice in 11 substitute appearances. His goalscoring has increased every year since, notching six in 2008, eight in 2009, and leading the team with 14 goals in 29 games as he helped the team to the 2010 MLS Cup. He was also tied for the MLS lead in assists in 2009, with 12, setting a new Rapids single-season record. With the Jamaican National Team, the striker has played 21 matches, scoring six goals.
In addition to 11-time All-Star Landon Donovan, ex-Manchester United midfielder David Beckham and World Cup Champion Thierry Henry, the roster also features prominent All-Star veterans such as Shalrie Joseph (New England Revolution), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo) and Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake).
Other selections have loads of international experience but are MLS All-Stars for the first time: Mexican icon Omar Bravo (Sporting Kansas City), Colombian national team veteran Faryd Mondragón (Philadelphia Union), and U.S. national team left back Heath Pearce (Chivas USA).
Below is the current roster for the July 27 match, listed by the position they are likely to play in the All-Star game, which is not necessarily the position they play for their club team.
