Commerce City, Colo. (August 19, 2011) - The Rapids will put aside their traditional burgundy home jerseys for one night on Saturday to debut a new third 'look' featuring the road white tops, home white shorts, and white socks when they host Chivas USA at Dick's Sporting Goods Park (7 pm MT).
“We have been discussing creating a third kit to wear at times next season,” said Jeff Plush, Rapids Managing Director, “and felt this was a good opportunity to present a new look to Rapids fans to gather their feedback. We talked with the players about combining the road and home uniforms as a test run, and they reacted positively to debuting an all-white look on Saturday.”
The Rapids have worn an all white uniform at various times in the past, though usually for road matches. When the Rapids re-branded prior to the 2007 season to take on the DNA of teams within the KSE family - with burgundy, sky blue, and onyx as the colors - they also introduced a third kit that included a white top with burgundy shorts, which was used for a friendly against Club America that season.
Whether or not a third 'kit' is brought back, the Rapids players are looking forward to wearing the all-whites look in front of the home fans.
"It's good," said defender Kosuke Kimura. "It looks, kind of, fresh. The guys that saw us taking the pictures all said they liked it."
"It make us look a little like Real Madrid," said Andre Akpan. "It's cool, it's something different, something new and I think the guys like it."
"I love the all-white," said Mac Kandji, "and I hope we get to wear it more often."
The team has worn the white top with burgundy shoulders on the road all season, where they have collected 19 points - the most away from home since 1999.
"Maybe it's good luck," added Kimura. "so we should keep it going."
