Commerce City, Colo. - Rapids captain Pablo Mastroeni was diagnosed with a mild concussion following the team's scoreless tie with Real Salt Lake Friday night. The veteran midfielder and RSL defender Jamison Olave collided in the 71st minute, with Mastroeni falling to the ground holding his head and Olave being shown a yellow card for the challenge. After being helped off the field and observed by the team's athletic trainer and doctor, Mastroeni was replaced by Jamie Smith in the 76th minute and taken to the locker room.
In a physical match, Real Salt Lake was whislted for 24 fouls and shown four yellow cards while the Rapids were called for 12 fouls and shown one caution.
Mastroeni will be further evaluated in the coming days. His status for the team's two games next week is unknown at this time.
