COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, June 15, 2012): The Rapids Women played the Santa Clarita Blue Heat to a 0-0 draw at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Thursday evening. The weather was perfect for playing and it was evident from the start of the game that the Rapids Women were ready to play.
From the kick off the Rapids Women went at Santa Clarita in what proved to be a heated affair with many physical battles that gave the referee’s a big task for the duration of the game. The Rapids women demonstrated intensity, passion, and heart from the get go and prevented the Blue Heat from playing.
In the 34th minute Rapids striker Amanda McMullan had the best chance of the first half but her shot went just wide. The Rapids continued to push forward for the rest of the half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the second half, the Rapids brought on Metro State University striker Karisa Price which gave them more presence in the attacking 3rd. The Rapids held possession throughout the 2nd half and continued to knock on the door of the Santa Clarita goal, but to no evail.
Head Coach Daniel Clitnovici of the Rapids Women was pleased with the performance but frustrated at only managing a point, “The ladies played well and worked hard, we deserved more than one point but this is football. What is important is that we clearly turned up to play, and we dominated for the majority of the game against a very experienced side in Santa Clarita. I thought it was a good performance by the team and hopefully we can take this positive momentum into Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rush.”
The Colorado Rapids Women return to action on Wednesday, June 20 at 4:30pm MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. To purchase tickets CLICK HERE, or call 303-727-3535.
