Commerce City, Colo. – Over the past two weeks the Rapids have made roster moves that involved four players, acquired Allocation Money, secured two International roster spots, and created roster flexibility with regard to space and budget.
Here’s how the roster stands as of today:
Goalkeepers: Matt Pickens, Stew Ceus, Ian Joyce
Defenders: Drew Moor, Hunter Freeman, Marvell Wynne, Tyrone Marshall, Scott Palguta, Luis Zapata, Davy Armstrong, Tyson Wahl
Midfielders: Jeff Larentowicz, Wells Thompson, Martin Rivero, Jaime Castrillon, Jamie Smith, Shane O'Neill, Brian Mullan, Kamani Hill, Joseph Nane
Forwards: Omar Cummings, Tony Cascio, Conor Casey, Edu, Andre Akpan
- Anthony Wallace and Pablo Mastroeni do not count on the 30-man roster since they are on the Season Ending and Disabled Lists, respectively. Luis Zapata replaced Wallace on the active roster prior to the start of the season; Mastroeni's spot can be filled while he is out so long as the team has budget available.
- Therefore, there are 25 active players on the 30 man roster. Two spots are unavailable, per MLS rules, as the team elected to use $35,000 for each empty spot as allocation money (ie, for players on Senior Roster).
- Jamie Smith, Jaime Castrillon, Edu, Martin Rivero, and Luis Zapata occupy five of the seven available international roster spots. One of the free spots was acquired in the trade with Kimura, and the other became available with the waiving of Henao.
