Commerce City, Colo. – Colorado Springs resident Mollie Bauer grew up playing soccer and has gone to Colorado Rapids games with her mom since 2003. But at one particular game this season, Mollie saw a promotion for the On The Road With The Rapids contest, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods, on the jumbotron and decided to enter. Weeks later, Mollie and her mom Julie have landed at LAX Airport and are ready to see their first Rapids match on the road.
“We saw it at a Rapids game,” said Mollie about the contest, “ and wanted to do something creative since a lot of the pictures were just of people at the game. So we went and found a river, kind of like the Rapids.”
The mother and daughter duo went on a hunt to find the perfect scenery for the picture and came across the Arkansas River in Cañon City, Colo., about an hour away from their home. In the photo Mollie is with her dog Jollie, posing with a soccer ball and a Rapids scarf on the riverbank.

She submitted the photo to the On the Road with the Rapids app on the club’s Facebook page and made it as a finalist after being in the top 10 among the most liked photos. From there, a panel of judges from Dick’s Sporting Goods and the Colorado Rapids selected her photo as the winner.
Mollie and Julie are used to seeing Rapids games at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, a bonding activity they started doing together years ago and are now partial season ticket holders. They can frequently be found in section 126, just behind the Rapids bench with Mollie cheering on her favorite player, Drew Moor.
“My mom has been taking me to games for years, so when I found out I won it was just my first instinct to bring her with me. She entered the contest too so we knew we wanted to go together.”
Along with roundtrip airfare to see the Rapids take on the LA Galaxy, the prize package includes two nights at the team hotel, $150 Dick's Sporting Goods gift certificate, adidas merchandise, team autographs, a pre-game on-field experience, and more.
The 20-year-old Sports Management major at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs has been playing soccer since she was young, and hopes to one day work for a professional soccer club. What better experience than to witness the Rapids face Landon Donovan, David Beckham and the LA Galaxy Friday night at The Home Depot Center while they’re On The Road With The Rapids.
