COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, September 21, 2012) – Soccer for Success, a youth development program that uses soccer to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles, will celebrate its launch with a special media event next Tuesday, September 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Maxwell Elementary School in northeast Denver. The open practice will showcase the growing health and wellness program available to boys and girls throughout the Children’s Corridor.
Soccer for Success is a combined effort of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, America SCORES Denver, The Piton Foundation and the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club, and is currently available at nine elementary schools, with plans to expand to as many as 16 next spring. The schools are all located in the Children’s Corridor, a 14-mile stretch from northeast Denver to Green Valley Ranch that is home to 54,000 children, roughly two-thirds of whom face the hardships of poverty, underperforming schools, undereducated parents, poor nutrition, or unsafe neighborhoods.
In addition to students from Maxwell Elementary School participating in their practice from 3:30-5:00 on Tuesday, the event will also feature the presence of coaches, educators, community leaders and Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni.
