Commerce City, Colo. - With the playoffs now out of the picture, Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja said he wants to use the final three matches to get a better look at some little-used players.
"I think it's an opportunity to see some players who have not played much," Pareja said. "But I also recognize the compromise the players have, the players that have played throughtout the season, and I know they want to finish strong."
Of the current roster, only goalkeepers Ian Joyce and Stew Ceus, as well as defender Davy Armstrong and newly signed defender Chris Klute have yet to appear in any regular season matches. Rookie midfielder Shane O'Neill has one appearance, while defender Scott Palguta has played twice.
Other available players who have played less than 450 minutes this season are midfielders Jamie Smith and Joseph Nane, forwards Kamani Hilland and Andre Akpan, and in-season acquisitions Tyson Wahl and Hendry Thomas.
"I think we're going to mix things up, giving time to some players who have worked hard but not seen action - although they've improved throughout the year - and balance that with players that have played regularly," Pareja said.
