Two events are now set to take place on January 17: the 2013 MLS SuperDraft in Indianapolis, Ind. and the first day that players will officially report to Dick's Sporting Goods Park for preseason entrance physicals.
Back from a short break for the holidays, head coach Oscar Pareja told ColoradoRapids.com on Friday that the first day of field work will be on Monday, Jan. 21, following the various exams and fitness test that the players will be put through by head athletic trainer Jaime Rojas and fitness and assistant coach Paul Caffrey.
Some players have used the club's weight room for voluntary workouts during the offseason (see Shane O'Neill with Caffrey above) and more are likely to join as they arrive into town over the next two weeks.
On January 17, Pareja will be at the MLS SuperDraft, where the Rapids have three picks in the two rounds, including the 6th, 25th, and 30th overall selections. Pareja plans to return Colorado later that evening.
The team will train in Colorado until departing for Tucson, Ariz on January 27 to play three preseason match in the Desert Friendlies tournament (TICKETS). In Tucson, Colorado will play Portland on Jan. 29, Houston on Jan. 31, and San Jose on Feb. 2.
Colorado kicks off the 2013 season on March 2 at FC Dallas before returning to host the Philadelphia Union on March 9 in the home opener.
