The Rapids selected Notre Dame midfielder Dillon Powers with the 11th pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. The Rapids acquired that pick from Chicago on Thursday in the trade that involved Jeff Larentowicz. Powers was one of only a handful of players that signed contracts with MLS prior to the Draft.
The Plano, Texas native has played all four years for the Fighting Irish, racking up 10 goals in 78 games played (74 started). Last season, Powers earned NSCAA First Team All-American and All-Great Lakes Region First Team honors, was named to the All-Big East First Team, and was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist. He was an All-Big East Second Team selection in 2010 and 2011, and his freshman season was named to the All-Big East Rookie Team.
With the United States Youth National Teams, Powers has participated at both the Under-18 and Under-20 levels, and played in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. He helped the U.S. U-20s to the 2010 Milk Cup title with a 3-0 record and was named Milk Cup MVP .
