Rapids fans tuning in to the live, high-definition broadcast of Saturday's season opener on Altitude TV will hear two familiar voices.
Veteran soccer play-by-play announcer Marc Stout is teaming up with Rapids legend Marcelo Balboa again to call Colorado's opening match at FC Dallas on March 2, Rapids Media Relations Director, David Lindholm, told ColoradoRapids.com on Friday.
Stout's involvement in soccer goes back to the 1970s, when he attended soccer camps in New Jersey under the direction of the late Rapids coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick. He began calling soccer games in 1994 with the indoor (NPSL) Buffalo Blizzards and had announced Rapids games or featured on team-related shows on television or radio in every year except 1996 and 2012. He and Balboa last called games together during the 2010 season.
Balboa, one of four players in the Rapids’ “Gallery of Honor,” enters his ninth year doing color commentary for the team, having also worked in the same role for ABC, ESPN, NBC and Univision, covering major soccer events including the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
Altitude TV will kick off coverage of Saturday's match between the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas at 6 p.m. MT with a pre-game show, followed by kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
