At halftime of each Colorado Rapids home game from May 4 to July 7, the Colorado Rapids will honor a Coca-Cola Hero of the Match for their services to the United States, selected by the Rocky Mountain chapter of the United Service Organization.
On May 4 the Rapids honored Staff Sergeant Erik Gallion.
Gallion joined the Air Force right out of high school, 364 days after 9/11. He served 8 years active duty in the Air Force as an aerospace medical technician with assignments all over the world including Andrews Air Force base in Maryland, The United States Air Force Academy, as well as at the infirmary in Baghram, Afghanistan.
In 2010, Gallion switched to the Colorado National Guard and subsequently changed jobs to Public Affairs Broadcaster. He is currently in his senior year at MSU Denver working towards his bachelors degree in speech communications with an emphasis in broadcast performance.
Rapids fans attending any of the matches through July 7 can donate $5 to the USO booth at the top of Section 127 and receive a voucher for a free 20 oz. Coca-Cola product, redeemable inside the stadium, and also put their name on a USO magnet to be displayed on the concourse.
