COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, May 15, 2013) – The Colorado Rapids learned today its potential opponents for the team’s first match in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, which will take place on Tuesday, May 28. The Rapids will take on the winner of next Tuesday night’s game Second Round match between Orlando City (USL PRO) and the Ocala Stampede (PDL), either in Orlando, Fla. or Commerce City, Colo.
If Orlando City wins next Tuesday, they will host the Rapids in the Third Round match on May 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Orlando. If Ocala upset the higher-division team, Colorado would host the May 28 match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park at 7:00 p.m. MT.
Ticket information for the Rapids’ potential home game on May 28 would be available immediately after the Orlando-Ocala match next Tuesday night (in the event of an Ocala win), with sales opening on ColoradoRapids.com on Wednesday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m.
The 2013 U.S. Open Cup marks the 100th edition of the tournament.
Colorado has only hosted four of 30 combined Open Cup and Open Cup Qualifying matches since 1996 and have played 10 straight on the road since a 3-1 win over the Carolina Victory in the 3rd Round of the tournament on July 10, 2007 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
