It’s another beautiful day in Colorado, and we would like to extend a warm welcome to everybody coming out to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for the events around our stadium and the match between our Rapids and D.C. United. It’s Military Appreciation Night, and the celebration of the U.S. Armed Forces marks the end of a busy and exciting week for our club. We hope to finish it off with a win!
We’ve got several events throughout the evening that will celebrate our military, with in-game tributes to the armed forces, including a special honor guard, a swearing-in ceremony, and more. We’ll also be making a donation to the USO, and we want to thank the many fans that participated in the fundraiser. On this special 4th of July weekend, we’re reminded of all the heroes that serve this country so faithfully and make sacrifices for our safety and freedom. The celebration will close with a fireworks display, so make sure to stick around after the game!
We’re on a two-game winning streak now, having beaten the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. After the dramatic, 4-3 win in Montreal last Saturday night, the boys followed that with a confident and composed 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Thursday night in our annual 4thFest celebration. It was great to see such a young backline keep a shutout, with guys like Shane O’Neill (19 years old), Germán Mera (23), Chris Klute (23) and Clint Irwin (24) helped by the experience of our captain, Drew Moor. Deshorn Brown scored and leads all MLS rookies with five goals this season, and Nathan Sturgis keeps arriving in the right place at the right time and got his fourth.
Another fun event at the stadium today is Xportiva, which opens at 11:00 a.m. and runs all day – it’s an interactive community event that features all of Denver’s pro sports teams, and is presented by Coca-Cola and Entravision. We encourage everyone to stop by and spend some of their Sunday getting to know our local teams!
As always, we appreciate your support of the Rapids, and are happy you’re joining us this evening. Special thanks also goes out to everyone who helps make Colorado and the United States such a great place to live, whether it’s the military who serve or those who donate time and money to local, national and international causes. We’re constantly inspired by our community, and we always try to do the same in return.
Thanks again for coming out, please let us know if we can do anything to make your visit better. You can contact Rapids Customer Service above Section 129, and I’m on Twitter: @tkhinchey3.
Come on you Rapids!
