Each week we will take a look at where the Colorado Rapids stand in the weekly Power Rankings on national soccer media websites.
The first of two Week 21 matches featured a home victory over the New England Revolution powered by a goal from Nick LaBrocca and excellent play from Dillon Powers. The Rapids then took to the road for a July 20 match at Seattle. Excellent defensive play led to a draw and the Rapids left Seattle with a point.
The four points earned has the team three points out of 2nd place in the Western Conference and within six points of the overall MLS standings.
Here’s how the week affected the team's standings in national MLS Power Rankings:
A four-point week is solid work for a team that's finally – maybe – getting healthy enough to compete for a postseason spot. Admit it, Rapids fans: You'd have taken "one point out with 12 left to play."
The Rapids got their first-ever point at Seattle with a 1-1 tie. Drew Moor’s goal provided a 1-0 lead and though an equalizer was conceded Colorado has accumulated 11 points in its last five games, which includes a 2-1 defeat of the Revs on Wednesday, when a Nick LaBrocca equalizer and an own goal carried Colorado to victory.
Another solid week has Colorado within just one point of a playoff spot. Those at Dallas have got to be very concerned.
With a home win against New England and a gritty road point at Seattle, Oscar Pareja's side got the job done. Nick LaBrocca played a role in both results, scoring against the Revs and assisting on Drew Moor's goal against the Sounders.
Oscar Pareja's club secured a crucial four points this week as they continue to challenge FC Dallas for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
Defensive leader Drew Moor stepped up in a big way in Seattle, scoring the club's lone goal and coming up with a goal-line clearance to preserve the result and keep the Rapids right on the cusp of the playoff picture.
Quite a nice round of results for Oscar Pareja’s young men, who scratched out at home against New England and then a draw at Seattle.
