Rapids defender Davy Armstrong underwent successful surgery on Tuesday morning in Denver, starting the process of returning from a serious knee injury. The Homegrown Player from Aurora suffered a torn ACL in his right knee earlier this month while on loan with Phoenix FC of the USL Professional Division, and is looking at approximately six months of recovery time before getting back to match action.
The surgery was performed on Tuesday by Rapids Team Doctor Wayne Gersoff M.D., and the procedure had no complications. Armstrong, 21, made his MLS debut on October 27, 2012 but had not featured in a regular season match in 2013. He played 109 minutes over two matches with Phoenix while on loan before suffering the injury in a match.
Armstrong will start the first phase of his recovery later this week when he returns to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to begin rehabilitation work with the Rapids Athletic Training staff.
