The Rapids Academy U18s and Sporting KC's U18s put on quite an offensive display in the two matches against each other over the weekend at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The teams combined for 14 goals, including three in stoppage of the 3-3 draw on Saturday, and SKC's 5-3 win over the Rapids on Sunday morning.
On Saturday the Rapids started off slow, struggling to keep possession. Sporting KC capitalized in the 30th on a goal by Cole Stevenson.
However the Rapids were able to tie the game just before the half when Bryce Montes finished from inside the six yard box after a good build up.
SKC went back up quickly in the second half, as Stevenson again putting the visitors ahead.
Despite SKC dominating portions of the second, the Rapids hung around and Jake Smits tied the game in the 89' with a long-range strike. Minutes later, second-half substitute Jacob Hanlin broke free after another nice combination and slotted home what was thought to be the game-winner deep into stoppage time. But Sporting earned one last corner kick and Darby Cronin smashed home a lose ball on the final kick of the game.
