Colorado Rapids forward Deshorn Brown, a frontrunner in the MLS Rookie of the Year race, earned his first ever cap with the Jamaican National Team and played the full 90 minutes in their 2-0 loss to the United States on Friday night in Kansas City. Brown had been called up to senior and youth national team camps previously, but this marked his first international appearance for his home country Jamaica.
With the loss, the Reggae Boyz were officially eliminated from World Cup qualifying contention, where the top three teams in the CONCACAF region move on to the 2014 Brazil World Cup next summer, and the 4th placed team will challenge the winner of the Oceania confederation, New Zealand, to advance. Jamaica will play their final game of the Hexagonal on Tuesday, October 15 against Honduras in Kingston.
Brown, who missed Colorado's Wednesday night loss to the San Jose Earthquakes, will return to Denver next week and is expected to be available for the Oct. 19 home match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The match is Colorado's final home game of the regular season, also Fan Appreciation Night, where the Rapids could have a chance to clinch a spot in the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs.
