Power Rankings Week 34: No movement heading into the last week of the season

Each week we will take a look at where the Colorado Rapids stand in the weekly Power Rankings on national soccer media websites.

Led by a brace from MLS Player of the Week, Gaby Torres, the Rapids were able to snag three crucial points from the Vancouver Whitecaps, and all but secure a berth in the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Here’s how the week affected the team's standings in national MLS Power Rankings:

================================== #5 (#5)

Had every chance to fold, but once again found a way to find the points they needed. With Gaby Torres getting hot and Clint Irwin being a brick wall, this is the dark-horse team that should scare you most in the playoffs.

Bleacher Report #6 (#7)

A brace from Gabriel Torres helped the Rapids take down Vancouver in their final home match of the regular season.

The Rapids should clinch a playoff spot next weekend regardless of their result because of the enormous gap in goal difference between themselves and San Jose in the battle for fifth place in the West.

Soccer America #4 (#4)

Gabriel Torres showed his class and coolness by curling home the winning goal, his second of the game, in a 3-2 Rapids’ comeback victory over Vancouver two minutes after the ‘Caps had equalized. Teammate Dillon Powers may be the Rookie of the Year frontrunner, but candidate Deshorn Brown put in a sharp performance that included a clever chip for the second Rapids’ goal.

Pro Soccer Talk #6 (#6)

When the Rapids beat Vancouver on Saturday night (eliminating the Whitecaps from post-season contention), they took a huge step toward securing a playoff spot. When San Jose could do no better than a draw late Sunday in Los Angeles, playoff soccer for the Rapids became a virtual certainty. Deshorn Brown scored again, continuing to solidify his Rookie of the Year case.

ESPN FC #6 (#6)

Gabriel Torres was another player who showed no signs of an international hangover following Panama's elimination earlier in the week, as his two goals - including game-winning golazo - gave Colorado an invaluable 3-2 win over Vancouver.
