COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Sunday, October 27, 2013) – Colorado Rapids rookie forward Deshorn Brown has finished the 2013 regular season as the team’s Golden Boot award winner, scoring a team-leading 10 goals in 31 games. The Rookie of the Year candidate scored the most goals for a first-year professional in MLS since Damani Ralph set the rookie scoring record with 11 goals for the Chicago Fire in 2003.
Brown, 22, joined the Rapids as the 6th overall selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft and immediately established himself in Colorado’s starting lineup alongside fellow Rookie of the Year frontrunner Dillon Powers. He scored his first professional goal in the team’s first match of the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup against Real Salt Lake on March 16, scoring against the Rapids’ main rivals again in the decisive third game of the series. He scored twice against Seattle on October 15, including the third-fastest goal in MLS history after just 15 seconds. Brown’s performances earned him a call-up to the Jamaican National Team for the first time in October, where he played in the team’s final two CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers.
The striker joins an impressive group of 2013 team award winners for the Rapids, including several young players who all played big roles for Colorado this season.
