USMNT World Cup Draw

World Cup: USMNT drawn into Group G, with Germany, Portugal and Ghana

The US national team was drawn into Group G with Germany, Portugal and Ghana on Friday in Brazil, giving them their first glimpse at a tough road ahead in the FIFA World Cup next summer.

They'll open the World Cup against Ghana, the same team that knocked them out of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The US were placed in Pot 3 before the draw along with their CONCACAF counterparts from Costa Rica, Mexico and Honduras, along with the Asian contingent of Iran, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

Mexico were drawn into Group A with host Brazil, Cameroon and Croatia, while Costa Rica were drawn into Group D with Uruguay, Italy and England. Honduras joined Group E with Colombia, Ivory Coast and France.

The U.S. will open their World Cup on Monday, June 16 against Ghana in Natal, then travel to Manaus to play Portugal on Sunday, June 22, and fly east to Recife to play Germany on Thursday, June 26.
